Lemon Toast

This dessert can be made very conveniently without much preparation.

  • 6 eggs
  • 3 cupfuls of sweet milk
  • baker's bread
  • 1 large cupful of white sugar
  • juice of 2 lemons
  • 2 cupfuls of boiling water

Take the yolks of the eggs, beat them well and add sweet milk; take baker's bread, not too stale, and cut into slices; dip them into the milk and eggs and lay the slices into a spider, with sufficient melted butter, hot, to fry a delicate brown. Take the whites of the eggs and beat them to a froth, adding white sugar; add the lemon juice, heating well and adding boiling water. Serve over the toast as a sauce and you will find it a very delicious dish.
