Almond Jelly Cake
Ingredients
- 3 coffee-cups sugar
- 1 heaping coffee-cup butter
- 6 eggs
- 5 even cups sifted flour
- 4 teaspoonfuls baking powder
- 1 1/2 cups sweet milk
- 1 teaspoonful lemon flavoring
Instructions
Beat sugar, butter, and egg yolks together to a cream. Add flour, baking powder, sweet milk, the the whites of the eggs beaten to a stiff froth, and added last; with lemon flavoring. Bake in layers.
Almond Sauce for Filling
- 3 pounds almonds, blanched and pounded to a paste
- 1 1/2 coffee-cups fresh, pure sour cream
- 1 1/2 coffee-cups sugar
- 4 eggs (whites and yolks beaten thoroughly together)
- vanilla
Instructions
Stir all together, and add vanilla enough to drown the taste of sour cream.
