Halloween Fruit Cake

  • 2 1/2 cups of syrup
  • 1 cup of shortening
  • 8 cups of flour
  • 4 level tablespoons of baking powder
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of cocoa
  • 1 tablespoon of cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of cloves
  • 1 teaspoon of allspice
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups of finely-chopped peanuts

Place syrup and shortening in a mixing bowl. Cream well and then add the rest of the ingredients. Beat to mix thoroughly.

Grease and flour a baking pan and turn in the batter. Place the raisins one at a time on the top of the batter and gently press them into the dough. Bake for fifty minutes in a slow oven.

Cool and then ice and decorate with Hallowe'en figures and then cut into blocks.
