Chocolate Layer Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 6 tablespoons of shortening
  • 3 cups of flour
  • 5 level teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla
  • 1 cup of milk or water

Instructions

Place sugar and egg yolks in a bowl. Cream and then add shortening, flour, baking powder, vanilla, and milk or water. Beat to mix and then cut and fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.

Bake in two layers in prepared pans and when cool place a chocolate filling between and ice with chocolate butter cream.
