Batter Bread

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoonfuls shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups cornmeal
  • 2 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 1 1/2 cups sour milk or water
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 level tablespoons baking powder
  • 4 tablespoons syrup or sugar
  • 1 egg

Instructions

Place shortening and cornmeal in a mixing bowl. Pour over boiling water. Now add sour milk, flour, salt, baking powder, syrup, and egg. Beat to mix, pour in well-greased baking dish and bake in hot oven for forty minutes.
