Silver Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cupful of sugar
  • 1/2 a cupful of butter
  • whites of 3 eggs
  • 1/2 a cupful of corn-starch, dissolved in nearly 1/2 a cupful of milk
  • 1 1/4 cupfuls of flour
  • 1/2 a teaspoonful of cream of tartar
  • 1/4 of a teaspoonful of soda
  • vanilla or almond flavor

Instructions

Beat the butter to a cream, and gradually beat in the sugar. Add the flavor.

Mix the flour, cream of tartar and soda together, and sift.

Beat the whites to a stiff froth.

Add the cornstarch and milk to the beaten sugar and butter; then add the whites of the eggs and the flour. Mix quickly and thoroughly.

Have the batter in sheets, and about two inches deep. Bake in a moderate oven for about half an hour.

A chocolate frosting is nice with this cake.
