Molasses Pound Cake

Ingredients

• 1 quart of molasses
• 1 pint of water
• 6 1/2 pints of flour
• 1 ounce of soda
• 1/2 an ounce of alum
• 1 heaping cupful of butter
• 6 eggs
• 1 ounce of cinnamon
• 1 pound of raisins

Instructions

Boil the alum in part of the pint of water, and let it cool before mixing with the other ingredients.

Instead of alum, one ounce of cream of tartar may be used.
