Black Cake
Ingredients
- 3 cupfuls of butter
- 1 quart of sugar
- 3 pints of flour
- 1/2 a pint of molasses
- 1/2 a pint of brandy
- 1/2 a pint of wine
- 1 teaspoonful of saleratus
- 1 ounce each of all kinds of spices
- 12 eggs
- 3 pounds of raisins
- 2 pounds of currants
- 1/2 a pound of citron
Instructions
Bake in deep pans, in a moderate oven, between three and four hours.
This is one of the best of rich cakes.
