Butter-milk Cakes

  • 1 quart of butter-milk
  • piece of lard, the size of an egg
  • 1 tea-spoonful of salaeratus
  • flour

You may make a very good batter cake without eggs. To the butter-milk, put the lard; warm them together, and stir in the salaeratus; make it in a thin batter with flour; beat it a few minutes, and bake it as other cakes.
