Ratafia

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of shelled bitter almonds
  • 1 ounce of nutmegs
  • 1 pound of fine loaf-sugar
  • 1 grain (apothecaries' weight) of ambergris
  • 1 gallon of white brandy or proof spirit

Instructions

Pound in a mortar, and mix together almonds, nutmegs, loaf-sugar, and ambergris. Infuse these ingredients for a week in the white brandy or proof spirit. Then filter it, and bottle it for use.
