Taffy

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cupfuls of sugar
  • 1/2 cupful of water
  • 1 tablespoonful of butter
  • 1/2 teaspoonful of lemon-juice
  • 1 teaspoonful of vanilla

Instructions

Put into a saucepan the sugar and water; stir until it dissolves; then wash the sides of the pan, and let it boil without touching until it reaches the soft-ball stage; add the butter and lemon-juice, and let it boil to the crack; add the vanilla, and turn it onto an oiled slab or a tin to cool. Mark it off into squares before it becomes cold.
